Usha Chilukuri, the Indian-origin wife of Republican JD Vance who could be US Vice President, Donald Trump's Vice President pick

On Monday, former President Donald Trump named Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate for the upcoming US presidential elections, marking a significant shift in their political relationship. Vance grew up in humble surroundings in Middletown, Ohio. After completing high school, he enlisted with the US marines where he served in the Iraq War as a combat journalist and a public relations officer.

Significantly, JD Vance's wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance, has also gained quite some attention being of Indian origin and how she brings with her wealth of experience and a strong connection to Indian values and culture. After graduating from Yale in 2013, he practiced law for a brief while before moving to San Francisco to work in the tech industry as a venture capitalist. Notably, he worked at PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel’s Mithril Capital.

At the time, Vance was staunchly anti-Trump. “I’m a Never Trump guy,” he told talk show host Charlie Rose in October 2016. In an op-ed for The Atlantic in July 2016, Vance wrote: “Trump is cultural heroin… Trump’s promises are the needle in America’s collective vein… He makes some feel better for a bit. But he cannot fix what ails them, and one day they’ll realise it”.

India’s T20 World Cup 2024 - Squad Announcement

The deadline for sending a provisional squad list for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 is nearing. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar reportedly met informally in the national capital recently apparently to discuss the squad composition. India’s T20 World Cup squad selection meeting is likely to take place on April 30, Tuesday, with the squad expected to be announced soon. There is a chance that the squad announcement could happen on May 1.

Irfan Pathan believes India must have five good bowlers. He prefers having two wrist spinners like Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav in the team. He doesn't think Yuzvendra Chahal should be picked just for his IPL performance, as fielding skills are also important. He believes Jasprit Bumrah is the only bowler who should be in the team.

The deadline for the squad is set to be on May 1. Captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to attend the selection meeting on Tuesday as he will be in Mumbai for MI’s home game against Lucknow. It is also likely that the date of announcing the squad may be delayed to May 1.

Rafael Nadal And French Open

Former World No.1 Rafael Nadal is likely to be unseeded in the French Open this year, the Roland Garros tournament director Amelia Mauresmo confirmed on April 25, Thursday. Nadal has slipped down to 512 in the rankings.

Spain's tennis legend Rafael Nadal cast fresh doubts over his participation in the French Open on Wednesday, stating he could potentially skip the tournament. The 22-time Grand Slam champion, where he has won the title a record 14 times at Roland Garros.

Sam Pitroda And Congress

Sam Pitroda, the Indian Overseas Congress head backed the Congress party’s stand on redistribution of wealth and advocated an inheritance tax law in the country while elaborating on the concept of inheritance tax prevailing in the United States.

The statement assumes significance because Prime Minister Modi had earlier this week accused Congress of planning to redistribute the wealth of people among “those with more children," a charge the grand old party denied.
“In America, there is an inheritance tax. If one has 100 million USD worth of wealth and when he dies, he can only transfer probably 45 percent to his children, 55 percent is grabbed by the government. That's an interesting law. It says you, you must leave your wealth for the public, not all of it, half of it, which to me sounds fair," Pitroda said in an interview.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi visiting Pakistan

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi commenced his three-day visit to neighbouring country Pakistan on Monday, months after the two nations carried out cross-border airstrikes on rival lands.

Iran President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Pakistan comes at a time when tensions between his country and Israel are heightened. Israel launched airstrikes against Iran's Isfahan province where there had been reports of explosions.

Raisi's visit to Islamabad is aimed at strengthening the ties between the two countries in the middle of the disturbances in the Middle East.

Iran says that this visit is aimed at strengthening the ties between the two countries, at a time when Iran is facing sanctions from the United States for launching a drone attack against Israel.

Tehran shocked Islamabad by carrying out airstrikes against alleged militant hideouts in the restive Balochistan province in January.

Raisi is set to hold talks with top Pakistani leaders as the two nations aim to boost trade and resolve border issues.

The Iranian president will visit major cities, including Lahore and Karachi, and focus on bilateral and trade ties.

It may be an effort to secure an expression of support from Islamabad for Iran as it stumbles deeper into a dangerous conflict with Israel.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif raked up the Kashmir issue but an attempt to talk about the region was not reciprocated by the Iranian president. Ebrahim Raisi instead raised the Palestine issue.

Earthquake Hits Western Japan

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.3 struck off southwestern Japan on Wednesday night, the US Geological Survey said, but there were no tsunami warnings or reports of damage. A magnitude 6.6 earthquake, measuring a lower 6 on Japan's seismic intensity scale, struck off the west coast of Shikoku island on Wednesday night striking at a depth of 39 kilometres, its epicentre was in the Bungo Channel, a strait separating the islands of Kyushu and Shikoku.

It left nine people with light injuries in Ehime, Kochi and Oita prefectures, authorities said Thursday morning. Minor damage in some areas, including broken water pipes, fallen streetlights and a landslide on a national roadway, has been reported, but no fires were reported in the quake's aftermath. No abnormalities have been detected at Shikoku Electric Power's Ikata nuclear power plant in Ehime Prefecture, according to the Nuclear Regulation Authority.

The Meteorological Agency initially reported the quake as magnitude 6.4 but later revised the figure to 6.6. Satoshi Harada, head of the agency's earthquake and tsunami monitoring division, said that this quake doesn’t meet the criteria for further study in that context, the agency will issue updates and convene expert panels as needed. The agency has advised residents of areas hit by the quake to be careful of seismic activity and heavy rainfall for the next week or so, as the risk of house collapses and landslides has increased in areas.

The quake has prompted anxieties regarding the possibility of an upcoming Nankai Trough earthquake, which typically occurs every 100-150 years, with the last one occurring 70 years ago. "This earthquake was caused by a fault shift within the plate, which is deeper than the boundary between the plates," Harada explained at the conference. Relatively large earthquakes have occurred in the past in the vicinity of the Bungo Channel, including an earthquake with a maximum intensity of upper 5 in Oita Prefecture in July 2015.

Greece prepares for "population collapse" - Elon Musk Reacts

In the heart of the Mediterranean, Greece stands as a beacon of history, culture, and resilience. However, beneath its picturesque landscapes and vibrant cities, the nation faces a silent but pressing challenge: population collapse. As Greece prepares for population collapse, its people and policymakers are grappling with the multifaceted implications of this demographic shift.

Greece prepares for population collapse amidst a complex interplay of factors. Declining birth rates, emigration trends, and an ageing population pose significant challenges to the nation's social and economic fabric. The repercussions of this demographic transition ripple through various sectors, from healthcare and pensions to labour markets and cultural heritage.

The population decline in Greece has reached alarming levels, and it could become the world's first country to suffer "population collapse". The report paints a scary picture claiming that heart failure, stroke, blood clots and cancer among otherwise healthy young people have caused the mortality rates to skyrocket in Greece. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called the prospect of population collapse a "ticking time bomb" and a "national threat".

Greece is predicted to become the first nation to suffer “population collapse” as sudden and unexpected deaths continue soaring across the nation while fertility rates have plunged to levels lower than experts previously thought possible. Heart failure, strokes, blood clots, and…
